Pantiles
This historic area is now largely a pedestrian haven. It runs from the foot of Frant Road to Linden Park Road. Originally known as Walks Parade, the Pantiles is divided into the Upper and Lower Walks and is on two levels. The area derives its name from the diagonally laid paviours which was used to surface the walks, the Pantiles also incorporates a number of passageways, the former fish market and Bath Square is where the Chalybeate Spring is situated. It was the discovery of the spring in the 18th century, which gave rise to the development of Tunbridge Wells as a spa town, and the creation of the Pantiles as a social space to take the waters, and a place for shopping and recreation.
